Seasonal Hospitality Assistant

POSTED ON 31 Mar 2025
job Details

PLEASE NOTE: Your application will not be considered without a personal cover note detailing why you would like to come and work on Lambay for the summer. Generic applications will be ignored.

We are looking for a hard-working, enthusiastic and physically fit individual between the ages of 19-25 to join our small island team for the summer months.

The job is very similar to chalet work in ski-resorts: cleaning bathrooms, kitchens; bedroom changeover, vacuuming, etc. Also some hosting: helping guests with general know-how, managing the open fire, assisting the chef with table-laying, clear up, washing up and general kitchen upkeep.

You will be working mostly alongside our House Manager, Alice, and there may also be opportunities to help on the sheep farm or with the micro-distillery if of interest. Alice's first language is French and she speaks fluent English as well.

Lambay is an incredible oasis of nature and historical architecture, just off the coast of Dublin but a wonderfully well kept secret. The island is home to seabirds (including puffins), breeding seals, deer and wallabies! There are four permanent staff on the island, with additional seasonal helpers and volunteers throughout the year.  There is a very friendly community feel within the team.

The island is also home to Lambay Whiskey, and our very own micro-distillery is currently under construction. There is an ancient Castle, lived in by the resident family, a large guesthouse, a guest cottage and several other residential cottages, as well as the farm buildings and a small Chapel.

There are no public ferries to the island, and all transfers are arranged by Lambay according to requirements. There is always a Monday and a Friday boat between April and October, and usually many other transfers in between for day trips - walking, architecture or whiskey tours, etc.  Spaces on the boats can be availed of for trips back to the mainland as and when it fits with your work.

Accommodation will be provided during your stay at no extra cost (and no bills as the island is off-grid), and the work is fairly non-stop for six months so we are looking for someone who is willing to immerse themselves in the island life rather than heading off the island regularly. In August the extended family comes to stay in the guesthouse, providing you with a nice opportunity for a mid-season break.

Wage €13.50 per hour plus free accommodation, heating, hot water, electricity and excellent wifi.

We need someone to start ASAP and ideally to work through until the end of September, but we will consider applications for a minimum of two months.

The position is offered on a self-employed basis so you will need to invoice us every 2-4 weeks (as you prefer) and be responsible for your own taxes, etc.  You must also be eligible to work and live in the Republic of Ireland for a minimum of six months.

Due to the unusual nature of island life and our limited resources as a small team, we reserve the right to reject any applications that do not feel right for the position without explanation.

If you are interested in joining our team for Spring/Summer 2025 please send us your CV including two contactable references and a cover letter with some additional information about yourself and why you are interested in joining out team.

We look forward to hearing from you!
