Being a Ski Season Chef
- Catering Support Staff
What better way to walk off a hot, hectic kitchen shift than in fresh mountain air?
Combining a passion for food with the skills needed to impress a room full of hungry skiers is a challenge. But with a team around you the job of a chef in a busy ski lodge or chalet becomes that much easier… and more fulfilling. Why? Well not only do you get to perfect your culinary skills and learn how to manage a professional kitchen, but at the end of your morning shift you can strap on your skis or snowboard and hit the slopes all day! That’s something that can’t be said about jobs with a lot of other chalet operators. But Skiworld aren’t like a lot of other chalet operators!
Our Chef positions are located in the Skiworld Lodges and larger chalets, catering for up to 75 guests who are all on a Skiworld 7 night ski holiday. Using regionally sourced ingredients our menus are an ode to the mountains they were born in, so you’ll get to learn the unique flavours and uses of some really interesting foods. The carefully designed 6 day Skiworld menu plan keeps our guests coming back year after year so it’s something we’re really proud of.
Two of our Lodge Chef vacancies are in the top French ski resorts - world renowned Tignes and Val d'Isere in the Espace Killy. These are definitely bucket list destinations. With over 300km of pisted runs up to an altitude of 3550m, and more off-piste skiing than you can fathom either one would be a dream. Imagine someone at home asking “So where do you work?”… and you could answer; “In the French Alps. In Val d’Isere. And yes… I ski almost every day of every week.”. Boom.
How Do You Fit? Being a ski season chef isn’t as daunting as getting a job for Gordon Ramsay. You learn a lot from the role itself, and Skiworld provide training pre-season to get you up to speed with the menu plan. All you need is:
- Past catering experience
- A passion for the mountains and hospitality
- To be a great team player
- The ability to work well under pressure
- Excellent communication skills
