Canadian Work Permits are now available to non-students!

POSTED ON 30 Nov 2011 - POSTED BY Oyster Worldwide

Ski season work in Canada has just become easier with the news that work permits are available for non-stuents!

We have been sending people toCanadasince the year 2000. For anyone that has been away toCanadawith Oyster for the ski season over recent years, you will know that the Work Permit application system is pretty laborious and restrictive as to who can apply.

Today, 18thJanuary, the High Commission are due to launch a new version of the Working Holiday Program. This will enable people aged 18-30 to travel and get paid work inCanadafor up to 12 months.

The big change for Oyster is that the new process allows anyone aged 18-30 to apply, not just students or a limited number of non-students. This means that we will be able to send people on our placements toCanadathat wouldn’t have previously been eligible. This is also great news for the employers that we work with as it opens up a whole new pool of talented people for them to employ.

In previous years it has been pretty stressful for students waiting for their A-Level results. Not only were they waiting to see if they got into their University of choice, but also whether or not they would have the University place to be eligible for the student Work Permit to go to Canada on their long awaited gap year. This is no longer an issue and we will be helping people to apply for their Work Permits, whether they are students or not, over the next few months.

The other group of people that could benefit from these changes are people that have already spent a season working in Canada with Oyster. You will be able to apply to the new Working Holiday Program two more times (subject to you meeting the criteria below)!

There are a limited number of Work Permits being made available this year so places are tight. If you want a guaranteed job, accommodation and full support inCanadaon your gap year, do get in touch as soon possible to avoid disappointment! In order to be eligible for the new Working Holiday Program permit you need to be aged between 18 and 30; be a fulltime UK citizen; hold a UK passport and be able to demonstrate that you can cover your expenses in Canada for the first three months ($1000 per month).
