Ski Season Workers in Patagonia

POSTED ON 06 Aug 2011 - POSTED BY Season Workers

Up to 12,000 Ski resort workers in Patagonia suffering from devastating volcanic ash

The ski season in Patagonia is currently at its peak but for the last couple of months the Puyehue-Cordón Caulle volcano in Chile has been spectacularly erupting, covering Patagonias ski resorts in ash and causing havoc with flights.

La Angostura is still yet to open despite the efforts of locals to clean up the ash. 2,000 ski workers have left the resort to try and find seasonal jobs elsewhere. Bariloche has opened, albeit a little later than usual, but the airport is still affected. Further north, ski resorts such as Las Lenas are largely unaffected. Ironically this has all increased business for the neighbouring Chilean resorts.
