Top Tips for a Successful Winter Season
Be a Real Team Player
People work winter seasons for plenty of different reasons. Some are looking for a career break, some are on gap years, and some are looking to further their careers in the hospitality and tourism industry. Be mindful of how you fit in with those around you and how you will function best as a team with everyone working to their own personal objectives.
Think of your Guests' Experience
Guests on a winter holiday have worked hard all year to afford their trip to the Alps. Many arrive having travelled for hours, hungry and tired - with children that are at the end tether. The first few hours of their experience with you is a make or break time in terms of setting their holiday expectations. Help your guests settle in, do the extra things that will make a difference, and you will soon find that they are very pleasant and relaxed - and a real pleasure to look after.
Prepare for the Season
Invest in training and practicing prior to the season. This will ensure you more time on the slopes and less time getting the hang of things. If you are recruited to cook, do bookwork, manage people, then do your research and practice the skills you will need to employ during your season. Most good ski companies give extensive pre-season training, however, if you arrive with a bit of knowledge and experience, you will be better able to take on board this training - and you will hit the ground running at the start of your season.
Be a Problem Solver
When things go wrong, as they are sure to do at some point during your season, don't be the person that complains and makes things worse. Be the person that looks for the answer and implements a solution. Do this with the help of your team members and the management, and you will not only be a popular member of the team, you will have some fantastic stories to tell and a few extra things to put on your CV when you are looking for your next job.
Get Out on the Mountain
Every day - even in bad weather - get out on the mountain. Ski, board, walk, snowshoe or simply just sit outside and soak in the atmosphere. Isn't this why you are doing a season? Don't get too run down from partying, eat lots of fresh food, get plenty of sleep andget out on that mountain!
Bonne saison!
