Ski Resort Management jobs come in many forms depending on the size and structure of the employer. For all ski management jobs you need to be flexible and hardworking but also have the capacity to instil this in your staff.
Common tasks will include organising reps and chalet staff – this is a big and stressful job on transfer days with the bigger companies. Driving minibuses with clients and staff is often required and you are always expected to be able to deal with local suppliers effectively. So a PCV licence and a fluent European language are highly desirable and any experience in driving, using languages for work and running teams is highly advantageous.
You will usually be responsible for the following if you are a ‘standard’ resort manager. Catering, bar and other specialist ski resort management roles will include specialist roles as well:
- Driving and care of company resort based vehicles.
- Compliance with company procedures & standards
- Organising lift pass and equipment hire
- Monitoring cleanliness and product delivery standards
- Resolving grievances and disciplinary matters (staff and guests!)
- Management and motivation of staff.
- Managing suppliers and standards (and sometimes contract negotiation)
- Regular contact with guests
- Organising programme of après ski
Ski Management jobs suit people with existing ski season experience who are ready to step up a level. They are not suitable for people who want to do a lot of skiing, especially early on!
You need to be organised, calm under pressure and above all have an aptitude for leading and motivating a team. Many of your staff will never have worked away from home and need more support than you might expect.
